The Force is Strong with this Campaign

Course of the Force is a relay race unlike any other in the galaxy leading to the San Diego Comic Con International. Social Media 180 was tasked with creating a Facebook application and social media campaign that would serve as the online destination for fans to keep track of the race, watch the action live, and view photos from the event. The relay race is a collaboration between Lucasfilm, Nerdist Industries, and Qualcomm. Social Media 180 delivered on this social media campaign that drove thousands of visitors to the facebook app and included interactive features to increase user engagement.

Live Event Tracking with Custom Maps

Social Media 180 integrated the custom built map for Course of the Force right into the Facebook App so fans could track the progress of the relay race throughout 8 day period. The map was also built into the official mobile app, which utilized Gimbal to send special messages and offers at select locations and Vuforia vision functionality to unlock exclusive content.

The mobile app was built in cooperation with Qualcomm utilizing their latest technology.

Follow the Action on Instagram

Social Media 180 integrated a social feed direct from Instagram within the Course of the Force Facebook App so fans could see and upload photos directly from the relay race. Thousands of fans shared their shots directly from the race, along with photos posted by the event organizers. Social Media 180 included automatic content filters to make sure all photos were relevant and family-friendly.

Live Video Streaming and On-Demand Library

Certain portions of the race were live streamed over the internet, and this video was embedded directly into the Facebook application so fans would have a one-stop shop for all things Course of the Force, and not be pushed to another website to watch the footage. After the live streams, the videos were uploaded along with marketing materials and made available in the app to view at any time.
